Vote By Mail

All registered voters qualify to vote by mail for the 2024 elections. The Secretary's Office has a Mail-In Ballot Registration Status : Search (state.ma.us) where you can check your registration status and apply for a mail in ballot.

How to Submit Your Vote by Mail Application

  • By mail - Mail signed application to the Town Clerk's Office, 1 Avenue A, Turners Falls MA 01376
  • Drop Box - Drop signed application in Drop Box located in front of the Town Hall
  • Fax the signed application to 413-863-3224
  • In Person - Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm; Wednesday, 8:30 am to 6:30 pm; Closed Friday.

Return of Vote by Mail Ballots

All ballots for the Annual Town Election must be received by 6pm on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Mail-In Ballots include a return ballot envelope that is addressed to the Town Clerk's Office. Ballots cannot be returned to the polling location on Election Day. They can be put in the drop box up to 6pm on Election Day.

Voters who receive a mail-in ballot but do not return it prior to Election Day may appear to vote in person to cast a ballot on Election Day. Any voter that has returned a vote by mail ballot is not permitted to appear to vote in person on Election Day.

Voter Registration

The deadline to register to vote for the Annual Town Election is Monday, May 12, 2024 by 5:00pm.

Registering by Mail

If you would prefer to register by mail, you may download the voter registration form by clicking here: Online Voter Application (state.ma.us) The form must be completed, signed, and delivered to your local election official. Voter registration forms submitted by mail must be postmarked no later than the voter registration deadline.

Montague Nomination Papers

Nomination Papers for the Annual Town Election, Tuesday, May 21, 2024

Available at the Town Clerk’s office until Monday, April 1, 2024

Available offices are as follows:

  • Selectman, 3 Year Term
  • Town Moderator, 3 Year Term
  • Assessor, 3 Year Term
  • Board of Health, 3 Year Term
  • Library Trustees, (3) three, 3 Year Terms
  • Montague Housing Authority, 5 Year Term
  • Parks & Recreation, 3 Year Term
  • Soldier’s Memorial Trustee (Non-Veteran), 3 Year Term
  • Soldier’s Memorial Trustee (Veteran), 3 Year Term
  • Town Meeting Members - for all six precincts.
  • Nomination papers must be returned by Wednesday, April 3, 2024, by 5:00 pm.
  • Potential town wide offices need to obtain 34 signatures of registered voters from the “town at large” to be placed on the ballot.
  • Potential town meeting members need to obtain 10 signatures from registered voters of their “home precinct” to be placed on the ballot.

The annual town election will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The polls will be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Nomination papers regarding school committee seats are provided by the Gill-Montague Superintendent of Schools at 35 Crocker Avenue, 863-9324.

The Town Clerks office is open Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and Wednesday 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. Town Hall is closed on Fridays.

Montague’s Annual Town Election is always on the third Tuesday of May (This year's election is on: May 21, 2024).

Voting hours at each polling location is from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.


State law prohibits the display of political paraphernalia within 150 feet of the entrance to the polling location. Signs, stickers, and even lapel buttons are not permitted within this restricted zone. State regulations also prohibit political solicitation within the restricted zone.

Voters may take their own personal notes into the polling place as an aid to assist their voting. This information cannot be shared with other voters or left in the polling place.
