Tax Rate Classification Hearing Scheduled for Monday December 1 at 7:10PM at Montague Town Hall.
A municipal tax rate–setting hearing is an annual public meeting where the Selectboard reviews property values, considers budget needs, and decides how to distribute the tax burden among different classes of property. Because Montague uses a split tax rate, with commercial/industrial properties taxed at a higher rate than residential properties, the hearing is the opportunity to explain how that split affects individual tax bills and the town’s overall revenue. The hearing ensures transparency, allows taxpayers to understand the factors that influence the tax rate each year, and gives residents and businesses a chance to offer comments before the Selectboard makes its decision.
The data will be available and part of the Selectboard meeting materials to be posted on Wednesday November 26.
