Public Tree Protection Bylaw

The Montague Tree Advisory Committee is proposing a general bylaw pursuant to MA General Law Chapter 87. The intent of the bylaw is to encourage the planting of more public shade trees than are removed and to compensate for tree losses and the time it takes for trees to mature. The bylaw defines the role of the Tree Warden and establishes rules for the removal, maintenance, and planting of public trees. It also establishes fines for unauthorized damage or removal of public trees. The draft bylaw is available for review at https://www.montague-ma.gov/calendar. A public hearing on the proposed bylaws will occur on Tuesday April 6, 2021 at 06:30 PM. The meeting will be held remotely due to COVID Restrictions. All interested parties will be allowed to speak. Written comments can be sent to planner@montague-ma.gov prior to the hearing.
