In December 2015 The Selectboard created a Public Works Facility Planning Committee to oversee a feasibility (planning) study to consider a new or replacement DPW facility. In May 2018 the voters of Montague approved a debt exclusion vote to construct a new facility at Turners Falls Road, behind the Public Safety Complex. In June 2018 the Selectboard reconstituted the committee as the Public Works Facility Planning Committee under the following charge:

“The Public Works Facility Building Committee shall be comprised of nine Montague Citizens with collective skills in construction, building systems, public administration, finance, and communications. The Committee shall be responsible for overseeing and expeditiously delivering the final design and construction of a new public works facility to the citizens of Montague in a manner that is transparent, efficient, and fiscally responsible.”

This page was created to be a clearinghouse for information regarding the planned DPW facility and for documenting the business of the Public Works Facility Planning Committee. 

The Town of Montague's new Public Works Facility became fully oeprational in November 2020. The project resulted in an outstanding and purpose-built facility that will allow the Department of Public Works to meet the needs of the Town for decades to come, and to do so in a safer and more efficient manner than was previously possible.

The original debt exclusion authorized borrowing of $11.146M. Happily, the project was realized for a final cost of $9.865M. This outome is a credit to the Building Committee, Town Staff, OPM (Construction Monitoring Sservices, Inc), Architect (Helene Karl Design), and Builder (BW Construction, Inc). Special thanks go to Committee Chair Ken Morin, Vice Chair, David Jensen, and to Jason Burbank, who donated his time to commission the facility.
