Montague Cemetery Commission – About
The Montague Cemetery Commission is a five member commission appointed by the Montague Selectboard. It is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the town’s 8 municipal cemeteries. Commission members engage in work such as coordinating twice annual volunteer cemetery clean-up days, creating inventories of headstones in need of repair, cleaning headstones, working with the Soldier’s Memorial Committee to place flags for veteran’s headstones and hosting programs and gatherings for the public.
In 2024, Town meeting approved the first Cemetery Sexton position. The Sexton is responsible for all activities related to plot sales, burials, and headstone placement in Highland Cemetery in addition to responding to inquiries about burial records.
Cemetery volunteers are welcome! Contact Mary Kay Mattiace for more information – maiamaia43@gmail.com.

Located at 390/398 Millers Falls Road, Millers Falls
Acquired by the town in 2021, Highland Cemetery is the town’s only active cemetery - one in which new plots are sold and burials are conducted. In 2023, the cemetery commission created Highland Woods, a 3 acre wooded section nestled at the back of the Highland Cemetery. Highland Woods was created exclusively for the purpose of natural (green) burial and was dedicated at a public ceremony in April, 2024.
Burial options:
