Montague City Village Center Study

**Project Updates** The Montague City Village Center Study final report and market analysis is now available. Based on Planning Board and Selectboard recommendations, the Planning Department is currently establishing a working committee to focus on redevelopment of the site, and exploring possible zoning amendments necessary to re-develop the parcel in support of residential and non-residential uses on the site.

As of October 10, 2024, the Town has been awarded grant in the amount of $62,000.00 from the Community Planning Grant Program to support the Montague City Village Center Zoning Amendments. The Town plans to start work as soon as contracts are signed. Possible zoning amendments may include, but not limited to: permittted uses, dimensional regulations, and design standards. More discussions, public oureach, and community engagement opportunities to come! Project page updated as of 10/8/2024.

Project Background:

The Farren Care Center is now closed. As demolition of the former facility nears completion, the Town of Montague will soon take ownership, presenting an opportunity to re-envision the property.

The Town of Montague is exploring potential land uses and activities for this 8-acre site, located at 340 Montague City Road, as well as, seeing how it may fit in with the surrounding neighborhood and its connections, be it by foot, bicycle, wheelchair, FRTA bus, or car. As a separate, complementary component to the study, a residential and commercial market feasibility analysis is being conducted.

Technical assistance has been provided by VHB. The Montague City Village Center Study has been funded by the Massachusetts Housing Partnership's Complete Neighborhoods Partnership. The market analysis has been funded by the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) FY24 Early Action Community Planning Grant.
