FirstLight Relicensing Recreation Settlement Agreement in Principle (AIP) - Monday, February 14 at 6pm

Join Montague’s Selectboard for discussion of the proposed AIP

The Montague Seletboard will review and discuss elements of the proposed Recreation Agreement in Principle between FirstLight Power, the Town of Montague, and a host of other stakeholders. The discussion will take place at 6pm on Monday, February 14, 2022 as part of the Selectboard's regular meeting agenda. The full agenda and login information can be accessed on the Town Calendar.

This agreement reflects commitments that FirstLight is making as a result of settlement talks stemming from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) re-licensing process. The license itself is proposed to be a 50-year agreement and would allow the company to operate the Turners Falls Hydroelectric Project and Northfield Mountain Pumped Storage Project, subject to the conditions of the license.

This non-binding agreement considers recreation only, with other elements of the license related to fish passage, streamflows and cultural resources each moving to their own AIPs. Assuming the AIP Is found acceptable, the critical next step would be the development of a final comprehensive settlement that would integrate all previous agreements. The recreational AIP includes projects of interest to the broader region, with issues of greatest concern to Montague having been negotiated by Town staff under direction of the Selectboard. We hope you will join us!
