Economic Development Grant Award Celebration at the Shea Theater

State Officials Announce Major Grants to Montague and Other Communities

The Town of Montague was among a host of communities to attend a Grant Award Celebration conducted by the Executive Office of Economic Development at the Shea Theater in Turners Falls on Tuesday, December 5th. The key note speaker for the event was Secretary for Economic Development Yvonne Hao, who was joined by numerous state and local officials, and by State Representative Natalie Blais and Senator Jo Comerford.

Rural and Small Town Development Fund grant awards were announced by the Commonwealth's Director of Rural Affairs, Anne Gobi, including $500,000 to Montague for a project that will reduce Combined Sewer Overflow Events. Site Readiness Program grant awards were announced by MassDevelopment's Deputy Director and Senior Executive Vice President, Theresa Park, including $132,700 to fund demolition design for portions of the former Strathmore Mill - a crucial step in the eventual redevelopment of the Turners Falls Canal District.

The Town of Montague wishes to thank state officials for the opportunity to compete for these funds, our legislators and local partners at the Franklin Regional Council of Governments for their advocacy on our behalf, and our capable Town staff for their outstanding work in conceptualizing and developing the grant proposals for these important projects. The Town also wishes to express its gratitude to the Shea Theater and its Director, Linda Tardiff, for providing a welcoming and visually inspiring venue for the event!
