The Town of Montague was awarded a grant of $62,000 to explore zoning changes to allow for a mixed-use, campus-style project on a town owned 8-acre parcel (former Farren Care Center site) in the Montague City Village Center. This grant is part of the Healey-Driscoll Administration award of $161 million for 313 projects to support local economic development in 171 communities across Massachusetts through the Community One Stop for Growth programs.
The Town in partnership with Massachusetts Housing Partnership (MHP), recently completed a Montague City Village Center Study that engaged the community in creating a vision for re-developing this site.
“We are thrilled to advance this project further using this study’s findings and recommendations, and added guidance from the Town’s Planning Board and Selectboard,” stated Town Planner Maureen Pollock. The Montague Planning Department is currently establishing a working committee to focus on redevelopment of the site, and with the recently awarded Community Planning Grant funds, will soon explore possible zoning amendments necessary to re-develop the parcel in support of residential and non-residential uses on the site.
The Town hopes to start exploring possible zoning amendments at the beginning of January and will provide community engagement and public outreach efforts throughout the planning process.
