Montague Public Libraries' Receives State Funding for Building Project

The Montague Public Libraries has been awarded a $100,000 planning and design grant through the Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program (MPLCP), a state-funded program that works with local communities to build, renovate, and expand public libraries. Once the project passes an independent review of the MPLCP Level of Design, Montague will be recommended for a construction phase grant immediately.

What does that mean for Montague?

It means that we have an amazing opportunity to either improve the Carnegie Library or build a new library, so that Montague residents can access the library spaces, services, and programs that they deserve.

A new or improved library space would be fully accessible and include:

  • A large community room for programs that community groups can book
  • A children's room with space for play and collections for children of all ages
  • A children's program room for early literacy programming and activities of all kinds
  • A separate teen area
  • A quiet study rooms for solo or small group work
  • A reading room
  • A local history room that can also serve as a meeting or program space.

There will be ample opportunity for residents to share their ideas and feedback about prospective designs, so stay tuned for upcoming community input events.

Questions/Comments: If you have questions about this project, please feel free to ask a library staff member or to contact Caitlin Kelley, Library Director at librarydirector@montague-ma.gov or stop by the Carnegie Library, 201 Avenue A, Turners Falls.
