Montague EDIC Seeking Member with Background in Industrial Development
The Montague Economic Development & Industrial Corporation (EDIC) is currently seeking a new member with experience in Industrial Development to serve on its board of directors.
The Montague EDIC was certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1984, in accordance with MGL Chapter 121C. The EDIC is a corporation established by the Town of Montague in order to implement economic development projects identified in the Economic Development Plan. The EDIC has the powers and duties imposed by Chapter 121C to undertake and carry out economic development projects. These powers include the ability to purchase, sell, and manage property and the ability to receive local, state, and federal grants, among others.
EDIC members are volunteers appointed by the Montague Selectboard. EDIC's role is to guide economic development and industrial activities in Montague, with an Economic Development Plan last updated in 2022. Since its creation in 1984, the Montague EDIC has played a significant role in major economic development achievements for the Town, including the development of the Great Falls Discovery Center and Canalside Rail Trail as tourist destinations, as well as the Airport Industrial Park, which is nearly built out to capacity as a regional employment center.
Interested volunteers should contact Assistant Town Administrator Chris Nolan-Zeller at chrisn@montague-ma.gov.
