2024 Comprehensive Plan - On September 24, 2024, the Montague Planning Board voted to formally adopt Montague’s Comprehensive Plan, and on December 9, 2024, the Montague Selectboard voted to formally adopt Montague’s Comprehensive Plan. Congratulations to the hundreds of Montague citizens who worked to create this important statement of community intent. A Comprehensive Plan is a community's general "blueprint" for its future, guiding regulatory changes, land use policies, budgeting decisions, and the rest of the community decision making. It can help to direct decision making on the community's long-term physical development over a period of decades or even generations. Montague's Comprehensive Plan aims to address its future through recommendations regarding land use, housing, economic development, natural & cultural resources, climate change & resiliency, parks & open space, community services & facilities/utilities, transportation, and implementation of the Plan.
This Plan was based on extensive public input in the form of community forums, working groups, targeted outreach, and a number of community surveys. This input was informed by research on the community's existing conditions and anticipated trends for the future. This Comprehensive Plan represents Montague’s best effort to balance competing interests of a truly diverse population and address the complex and intertwined issues that will be facing the community over the next decade and beyond.
2023 Montague Age Friendly Plan - The Town seeks to understand how our community can best serve older adults and people with dementia. Together, we will explore how we can work together to improve opportunities and outcomes for older adults and people with dementia by becoming an Age Friendly Community.
2023 Sawmill River Corridor Assessment Project - This assessment and mapping project explores the overall health of the Sawmill River watershed, fluvial erosion hazards, and identifies ways the Town and private landowners can take part of responsible land stewardship practices.
2017 Open Space & Recreation Plan - The Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) is a seven-year action plan to manage, protect, and improve Montague’s conservation and recreation resources. This plan is informed by a thorough public participation process to ensure it reflects the needs and interests of our community. Once a new plan is complete and approved by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) Division of Conservation Services (DCS), Montague becomes eligible to apply for a variety of grants to help fund the implementation of the plan. The Conservation, Planning, and Recreation Departments are responsible for updating the plan every seven years and overseeing its implementation.
2012 Turnpike Road Industrial Park Master Plan - In recognizing the value of industry to the overall economic health of the community and having a strong history of industrial uses in its history and recent experiences, this plan aims to look again at industrial uses as new opportunities for economic development that create jobs and expand the tax base.
