National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit (Effective January 1, 2024)

The National Pollution Discharge Elimination System Permit is a Federal document issued by the Environmental Protection Agency in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). It is issued in compliance with the provisions of the Federal Clean Water Act as amended and the Massachusetts Clean Water Act, as amended.

The permit authorizes the Town to discharge from the Clean Water Facility located at 34 Greenfield Rd and from the Town's two Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs)

The permit sets forth conditions for the following:

  • A - Effluent Limitations & Monitoring Requirement
  • B - Combined Sewer Overflows
  • C - Unauthorized Discharges
  • D - Operations & Maintenance of the Sewer System
  • E - Alternative Power Source
  • F - Pretreatment
  • G - Sludge Conditions
  • H - Special Conditions
  • I - Monitoring & Reporting
