Notice:
Please be advised that flushing items such as "flushable wipes," masks, gloves, femanine products, paper towels, and other non-flushable items can cause detrimental equipment failure and pottentially expose essential staff to hazardous situtations while they repair clogged pumps and pipes.
As always, but even more so during these times, we strive to provide the best treatment of wastewater possible, in order to protect both the public and environmental health of our community.
Our Mission
The Montague Clean Water Facility (CWF) seeks to promote the conservation of local wildlife supported along the Connecticut River by effectively treating the wastewater stream to national pollution discharge elimination standards. The facility also seeks to promote public health through treatment, reducing pathogens and nutrient loadings, which in turn help to protect the recreational use of the river.
Facility Overview
The facility treats industrial and residential wastewater from the villages of Turners Falls, Montague City, Montague Center and Lake Pleasant. See the additional pages for more information.
For issues involving the Town sanitary sewer collection system and CSOs/SSOs contact the Town Highway Department at 413-863-2054.
The CWF is responsible for the operations of the Treatment Facility, Pump Stations (8) & Pump Station force mains.
Sewer billing is done by the Town Treasurer/Collector's office.
Sewer abatement requests can be made to the Sewer COmmission/Selectboard office, or to the CWF. Be advised that a request must be submitted within 30 days of the bill date per Massachusetts General Law. Sewer Abatement Request Form.
The CWF & water districts are seperate departments. The water districts provide water use readings to the Town Hall & CWF for generation of the fiscal year sewer use bills.
