Montague is experiencing more extreme weather events- especially heavy rains and flooding- along with higher temperatures and other climate-related conditions, increasing the urgency to plan for resiliency and adaptation. Montague particpates in the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program (MVP) which provides support for cities and towns in Massachusetts to begin the process of planning for climate change resiliency and implementing priority projects.
In June 2018 the Selectboard adopted the Montague Vulnerability Preparedness Plan.
In July 2018 the Town was awarded an "Action Grant" to engineer a nature-based solution to recurring flooding that closes Montague City Road. The Town has since recieved a FEMA Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant to complete the project in 2022.
