Are there any loan programs to cover the cost of home energy improvements?

Yes, in 2024 the Energy Saver Home Loan (ESHL) was launched for low and moderate income homeowners through the MA Community Climate Bank. Loans are made in partnership with Concierge Service Providers (CSPs), who will guide you through all aspects of the home energy improvement process.

The Center for Eco Technology (CET) is our area’s Concierge Service Provider. For more information about ESHL loans, eligibility, and concierge services to guide you through home energy-saving projects, contact CET by email at energysaver@cetonline.org or by phone at 413-303-0667.

Here’s what the Home Energy Saver Loan Program offers:

  • Eligible homeowners may use the loan to finance home weatherization, electrical system upgrades, heat pumps (includes mini splits), new efficient appliances and fixtures, health & safety improvements such as roof replacement and oil tank removal, and installation of rooftop solar panels, battery storage and EV charging stations. (Loans do not fund installation of new fossil fuel equipment.)
  • Low interest rate, second mortgage loans that support a variety of energy-related home improvements for single-family homes and 2-, 3- and 4-family properties in Massachusetts (the property must be the homeowner’s primary residence).
  • Financing at your project's start. No cash down, no waiting for rebates or incentive payments
  • Free end-to-end support through all aspects of the home improvement process, loan closing and post-construction
  • Identification and coordination of all available incentives, rebates and other credits

Also, as of Jan. 1, 2025, the Mass Save program will offer 0% HEAT Loans for eligible homeowners for Mass Save-approved energy saving measures up to $25,000. See their website or call Mass Save 866-527-SAVE (7283) for more information.
